With the ever-increasing technological innovations, we have become dependent on them for our survival. There was a time when we used technology. But today we live it. Our lives would be meaningless with it. But what if all the technology were to suddenly vanish from our lives?
Even such a thought sends shivers down my spine. Without all the comforts afforded to us by these scientific marvels, our lives would be thrown back to the dark ages. No mobile phones, no laptops, no TVs, no Air Conditioners, no Cars, no Refrigerators. The world would plunge into chaos. People would not know how to react. A sense of gloom and insanity would creep into the minds of people.
The Changes caused by this Change:
After the dust of this initial chaos settles down, and realization dawns upon people that this is the new normal, the struggle would begin. Having been used to the comforts offered by the technology, every task would be a burden. Life would become very uncomfortable for a lot of people who were used to sleeping in the lap of luxuries. It will be difficult to find alternatives for these technologies, as we have left them behind many years ago. People will be forced to do everything by hand, and face the Nature in its bare avatar.
Can we Survive this Change?
I would say Yes. Human beings are one of the youngest species on this planet. And in our short existence on this planet, through the efforts, will, intelligence and efforts, we emerged as its dominant species. Human beings have survived many threats to their existence in the past. And I am sure we can survive this threat too. However, if technology disappears, we would be faced with some very greave problems, like:
Lack of Medical facilities
We will lose connection with our loved ones who stay far from us
Travel will become slow and tedious
There may be a shortage of food owing to the disappearance of farm technology
But like every coin has two sides, I believe that the disappearance of technology can bring some positive changes to the way we live, like:
Increase manual labor will lead to a healthier population
Human interaction will increase
The toxic effect of some of the technologies on the environment would cease, leading to pure air and water
Polar/Glacial melting will slow down
Earth would get a chance to heal itself
The lifestyle diseases caused by over-dependence on technology will disappear
The most powerful weapon in the hands of human beings is their will. And with this will we can overcome any obstacle. If technology were to vanish from our lives, our lives would be very difficult. But it would not be the end of our existence. We have survived bigger odds in the past, and we can and we will survive this one too.
